Our mission is simple -- to help save souls.
In order to accomplish our mission, we recognize that we have a canon law right and responsibility to ask questions and be heard by the Archdiocesan leadership about the "All Things New" campaign that includes plans for "the most sweeping changes" to the St. Louis Archdiocese in its 196 year history. We would hope that every Catholic in the Archdiocese would agree with following Canon Law and allowing all Catholics to be heard.
We pray for the Holy Spirit to guide "All Things New," and we pray in support of our Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski, Auxilary Bishop Mark Rivituso and Vicar for Strategic Planning Father Chris Martin.
It appears to many that "All Things New" is a pre-determined plan coming from Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) that has been implemented in many other dioceses on the East Coast. CLI's website states that they have "measurable data" that their plans lead to "an increase in Mass attendance" and collections. However, they refuse to share such data with us here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis even at the written request of one of their own Board Members, Bishop Donald Hying. We are unable to find a single diocese where these CLI reorganization plans have been implemented where Mass attendance or number of Catholics has increased. We would happily be corrected if CLI would furnish the data.
Most critically, Pew research has shown 20 to 65% of parishioners leave the Catholic Church entirely when their parish is closed or merged. The more people feel they did not have a voice in the process, the higher percentage of those will abandon the faith. No evangelization program can make up for that size of loss, not to mention the souls that will be lost!
